GIRL SCOUTING AT HOME: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, COMPOST – RELAY!!!

Share the fun of Girl Scout Camp with your family! Girl Scouts of Colorado Camp Staff has developed a series of activities you can do with your family at home. Or, you can even share them with your Girl Scout sisters virtually. This game is a great way to learn about reducing waste as well as having a silly competition with your loved ones!

Materials:

• Eight Containers
• Lots of examples of materials you can reduce, reuse, recycle or compost. These can be things found around the house, items from the garbage or recycling, or just drawn pictures of these items!

Game Set-Up:

• Label two containers reduce, two reuse, two recycle, and two compost
• Each team will need one of each container
• Gather materials (or pictures of materials). Each team should have the same items

Game Play:

1. Split the group into two teams. Each team has a starting line on one side of the room and their four containers are on the opposite side of the room.
2. Each group has a pile of items that they must decide if they should reduce their use of, reuse, recycle, or compost.
3. One member of each team at a time must take an item from their pile and run and put the item in the container they think it fits best in.
4. The next player can’t pick up the next item until their teammate returns and tags their hand.
5. This continues until one team has put all the items into their containers.
6. The team that has the greatest number of items in the correct containers wins. Many items could fit in multiple locations so your team must give your reasons for why you put it where you did to get the points!
7. To make the game more silly and challenging change the way the players get to the containers. They could skip, crab walk, bear walk, hop, etc.!
